This project involved developing a full branding package for the Synthetic Media Research Network (SMRN), a newly established organisation focused on generative media research. The main challenge was visualising the abstract concept of a neural network in a way that felt modern, recognisable, and accessible to an academic audience.
We began with research and concept sketching, exploring various visual interpretations of neural connectivity. Through iterative development and feedback, I created a logo that combines a stylised neural motif with clean, contemporary typography. This identity was extended across a banner, programme, and lecture board—each designed to be cohesive, legible, and easy for the SMRN team to adapt independently.
The project strengthened my skills in logo design, layout, and typographic systems, while also teaching me how to translate complex, abstract themes into practical, user-friendly visuals. By focusing on clarity, scalability, and the needs of a research-driven audience, the final outcome effectively communicates SMRN’s forward-looking identity.
